Camelot accepts UKGC fine

The operator of the National Lottery had been penalised by the local gambling regulator for a number of failings.

UK.- The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) fined Camelot €1.2 billion last week for faults within its mobile app and the publication of a list of Lotto prizes that was incomplete. The operator of the UK National Lottery has admitted that at the time of the incidents it failed to meet the highest possible standards.

“While we have always sought to run the National Lottery to the highest possible standards, we accept that, at the time of these incidents, our standards in certain areas weren’t as rigorous as they should have been and for that we’re sorry,” said Camelot.

Since the findings, the company increased its controls and strengthened its processes and governance arrangements. While the fine still stands, the UKGC put its investigation on hold as the company created an operational excellence programme.

Richard Watson, executive director of the UKGC, said that it is crucial that the National Lottery is run fairly, safely and with integrity and that they will continue to hold Camelot to account.
