Belgium team urges commission to clarify advertising rules

KAA Gent has demanded the Belgium Gambling Commission to clarify marketing advertising rules in the country.

Belgium.- KAA Gent, a Jupiler Pro League Football team from Belgium, has asked the Belgium Gambling Commission (BGC) to make current marketing advertising conditions clear. This comes after the commission banned a promotion from the club.

KAA Gent recently offered fans the opportunity to train with the team, with the only requirement being betting €1 on the Napoleon Games. The BGC flagged the promotion as it said that rules had been violated. The commission specifically mentioned the Royal Decree of Belgium, in which operators are under strict advertising conditions.

D&V Justice Minister Koen Geens, who created the Royal Decree said: “Gamble in moderation! Must stand. Offering bonuses involve various dangers for the gambler. For example, new players can be encouraged to start gambling or existing players to start gambling again.” Geens said that the country needs additional advertising measures.

On the other hand, Napoleon Games Chief Executive Tom De Clercq said that the campaign was created following marketing advertising standards of Belgium’s Royal Decree.

BGC starts consultation

The BGC announced on Monday that the subcommittee on the Royal Decree wants to gather comments around it. The subcommittee aims to gather practical comments from the assistance sector, prevention services regarding gambling and debt.
