Steuben County shows interest in Indiana casino relocation discussions
Commissioners have voted to formally indicate openness to the Indiana Gaming Commission.
US.- The Steuben County Board of Commissioners has shown interest in joining discussions on the relocation of casino licences in Indiana. The commissioners voted unanimously to formally indicate their openness to discussions after the Indiana Gaming Commission released casino land study results identifying preferred areas for possible casino relocation.
They cited the intersection of Interstate 69 and the Indiana Toll Road as a key logistical point for a casino development. The county previously saw discussion on the topic in 2007-08 when a licence holder from Gary, Indiana, considered a move to the area.
Commissioner Rick Shipe said: “We want to keep researching that and gather information to make (the Indiana Gaming Commission) aware formally that we are open to that discussion.”
The Indiana Gaming Commission’s study has been submitted to the State Budget Committee. It highlights Indianapolis and northeast Indiana as two top sites for a potential relocated casino. In Indianapolis, the study mentions an area near the Indiana Statehouse, chosen for its proximity to the convention centre and professional sports venues. The northeast Indiana site was placed near Auburn, where SR-8 meets I-69, providing access from Fort Wayne, the Indiana Toll Road and Michigan markets.
