Sports Illustrated to launch prediction market platform
SI Predict will be launched in the second quarter of 2025.
US.- Sports Illustrated is preparing to launch SI Predict, a prediction-based platform developed with Galactic, a media prediction technology company. The launch is planned for the second quarter of the year, regulatory approvals permitting.
The goal is to allow real-time engagement with proposition-style wagers centred around lifestyle elements and events adjacent to sports. Sports Illustrated and Galactic said in a joint statement that they aim to boost fan involvement and discussions rather than typical gambling.
They said the platform will adhere to standards set by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority and the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), which plans to hold roundtable discussions about prediction markets.
Sports Illustrated previously had a short-lived deal with London-listed 888 Holdings (move Evoke Plc), which came to an end in 2023. The companies blamed intense competition and low margins for the decision to abandon the venture.
