Sports betting to arrive in the state of Washington
Representatives passed a sports betting bill in Washington, leaving the segment’s legalisation up to the Senate and the Governor.
US.- The gaming industry continues to evolve through sports betting. That’s why many states are trying to regulate the segment as soon as they can.
Late last week, a sports betting bill sailed through the House in Washington. Representatives voted 83-14 in its favour and left the matter up to state senators.
Sports betting in Washington now needs a companion bill to pass in the Senate and get Gov. Jay Inslee’s signature.
“Incredibly proud of the strong 83-14 bipartisan vote,” Rep. Strom Peterson – the bill’s sponsor – said. “We have found a good middle path that supports our tribal partners, allows adults to safely access sports betting and protects our youth.”
Back in the committee stage, Representative Drew Stokesbary said: “This is a middle ground. It permits adults who are responsible to engage in an activity that doesn’t harm other people. But it doesn’t make it so prevalent or so pervasive in our society that we as a legislature have to worry about the morality and ethics of that.”
The bill
The legislation for sports betting in Washington would allow the state’s 29 tribal casinos to offer sports betting unprofessional and college sports. It would also allow bets on Olympic events and eSports. However, gambling on games involving local colleges, public or private, would still be prohibited.
