Sports betting to be expanded in Rhode Island
A second casino in the state is set to launch sports betting operations today.
US.- Twin River Casino has revealed that sports betting will launch at its Tiverton location today. The announcement made on Friday follows the decision to launch operations at the Lincoln facility in November.
The sports betting lounge at the Lincoln facility debuted on November 26, after several delays that forced authorities to change the date. The Twin River casino became the first New England facility to take bets on professional sports.
Twin River Casino’s two locations are now the only places where bets will be accepted in person. However, the Senate President Dominick Ruggerio said that he is working on a legislation to allow people to place bets on sports betting in Rhode Island through their phones. Ruggerio said that the bill will be introduced when the legislative session starts again in January.
The planned event will start at 3 pm ET at the Tiverton facility, which is close to the state line with Massachusetts, one of the states still waiting for sports betting legislation and regulation.
