Sports betting to arrive in DC

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser approved a sports betting act that will come into force in two months, after a review by the Congress.

US.- Sports betting is set to land in Washington DC after Mayor Muriel Bowser approved the Sports Wagering Lottery Amendment Act. The bill was passed by the DC Council in December and will be enforced after a two-month review period to be conducted by the Congress.

Most states in the US began discussing the segment soon after (and many even before) PASPA got revoked by the Supreme Court, posting different results. A few have already legalised it and many are still debating it, while DC is soon to finally get it up and running after overwhelming support from state lawmakers.

Even though it is expected that sports betting will be legal in DC two months from now, it is still uncertain when operations will be available to launch. The state wanted to be ready to host the segment by the start of the baseball season but, in order to reach its goal, it will need to fast-track implementation of the new legislation in order to issue licences.
