Spokane Tribe plans new Airway Heights casino
The tribe is planning on opening the new facility mid 2017.
US.- The Spokane Tribe announced that the first phase of the new Airway Heights casino will be open in 10 months. The initial inauguration of the US$40 million casino will feature 450 slot machines and 12 table games, along with an outdoor plaza and two restaurants.
The tribe proposed the casino back in 2006, and had to wait almost ten years for the US Department of Interior to give them the permission to build the off-reservation casino. The Governor signed the project almost a year ago. Carol Evans, Spokane Tribe’s chairwoman, said: “We have so many people to thank for this day. It’s been a long time coming.” The Kalispel Tribe currently operates the Northern Quest Resort & Casino, and the new project would set the mark for Arway Height’s second casino. “Our studies show there is definitely room for two casinos. We believe in healthy competition,” said Evans.
Although they would be inaugurating only the first phase of the project, the tribe is planning on building a resort hotel, restaurants, a shopping and a tribal cultural center along with entertainment venues. The tribe said that the facility will support more than 5000 jobs and help the town by generating revenue.
