Swedish regulator clears operators

Spelinspektionen has closed four cases where operators were under investigation for allegedly allowing bets on sports events involving minors.

Sweden.- The Swedish gambling regulator Spelinspektionen has revealed that it has closed four cases regarding betting on football matches where the majority of the players were under 18 years old.

The regulator said that after an investigation, it decided to close the cases because the gaming companies had not violated the current licence conditions. The investigation showed that the players who were eligible in those events were over 18 years.

Spelinspektionen said that it decided to warn and set several penalty fees on a number of cases where there was betting on events involving minors. In those cases, there was betting on match results where it was proven that there were minors involved.

“The regulator is currently working on regulations regarding bans and restrictions on betting to counteract manipulation of results in sports, where the problem of betting on the individual performance of minors will be taken into account,” said Spelinspektionen.

The companies that were cleared by the regulator are AB Trav and Galopp, Betsson Nordic, Hillside Sports ENC and Spooniker Ltd.

Spelinspektionen could limit more licences

The administrative court in Linköping issued on Monday a total of seven judgements regarding limited licensing time. That court also gives Spelinspektionen the right to limit the licences.

Spelinspektionen said that the administrative court in Sweden gave them the right to limit the licence period to two years. They also have the right to entirely reject the companies’ appeals over the ruling to limit the licences.

The companies concerned in the seven judgments are 100% owned by Maltese company Co Gambling Ltd, which is also 100% owned by Swedish company Cherry AB, the regulator explained.
