Arkansas casino launches sports betting
The Southland Casino has launched its sports betting services days before the 2020 Super Bowl.
US.- Southland Casino has officially kicked off its sports betting operations, days before the Super Bowl. The Arkansas facility debuted its sportsbook on Tuesday afternoon as it wants to enjoy the benefits of the most important sports event of the year in the US.
Southland executive Jeff Strang said that the timing of the launch was great. “We feed off a population and we’re hoping it’s going to make it more convenient to come here based on time, travel as elsewhere in the Midsouth,” said Strang.
Moreover, he said that West Memphis, where the casino is located, should benefit from the sports betting offer. He believes that sports betting adds more inventory to help compete to bring more events to the area and compliment it.
Judge ruled against Arkansas casino licence
Back in 2018, Arkansas voters cleared a constitutional amendment allowing the casino segment to arrive in the state. However, a judge seems to be against its arrival. Pulaski County Circuit Judge Wendell Griffen recently issued a temporary restraining order against the industry.
The restraining order prevents the state Racing Commission from considering applications or issuing a casino licence. It came in response to a lawsuit challenging the commission’s opening a second application period.
