SJM Holdings sponsors eSports event

The casino firm sponsored a three day eSports event that was held at the Grand Lisboa Hotel.

Macau.- SJM Holdings Ltd became the latest casino operator to support eGames in Asia as it held a three-day international eSports event in Macau. The MDL Macau Dota2 International Elite Invitational started on Friday and was considered the first international e-Sports competition held in Macau.

Chief Executive of SJM Holdings, Ambrose So Shu Fai, said: “E-Sports is an emerging industry with huge growth potential and global viewership. Macau is put in the limelight with this major e-Sports tournament, which we believe will further benefit the development of the city’s tourism and leisure business.”

Moreover, the firm said in a release that the eSports industry, which is formally recognised by China as an official sports programme, has seen rapid growth in recent years. “The viewership of e-Sports in China is increasing and is gradually catching up with that of traditional sports,” it said.
