Exclusive interview.- Earlier this month, 1xBet announced the appointment of Simon Westbury to the role of strategic advisor. Simon has over a decade of board-level experience in igaming and a track record in driving strategy across B2B, sports, and media operations.
Focus Gaming News spoke with Westbury to find out why he accepted this new challenge, what his priorities will be and how he intends to leverage his years of experience to contribute to the rapid expansion of the company.
Congratulations on your new role at 1xBet! What drew you to this opportunity, and why now?
Many thanks for your congratulations. Focus Gaming News has always been a valuable resource to me, and I appreciate the opportunity to conduct this interview. In short, I was drawn to 1xBet’s vision, their expansion plans, and how this aligned with my skill set. I genuinely believe I can make a difference and elevate 1xBet. The opportunity is a bit different to my previous roles, so I can also learn a lot from my new colleagues.

As strategic advisor, what will your main priorities be during the first phase of this new chapter?
My main priorities, of course, are to understand 1xBet’s product fully and also to get to know my new colleagues. From here, I will be advising on expansion strategies and also looking to demonstrate to the industry what a powerful and dynamic company 1xBet is.
You’ve worked in the industry for many years. How do you plan to leverage your experience from Digitain to add value at 1xBet?
When leveraging experience, I will look back across my entire career and incorporate the lessons I have learned from different stages I have passed through. Having worked in many other companies and cultures, my understanding and lessons learnt from working in dynamic companies in different cultures will be invaluable.
Additionally, I consistently discuss momentum and my experience of building momentum behind companies, increasing their visibility, and improving how companies I have worked with are perceived in the industry. Furthermore, introducing a new face with greater openness will benefit 1xBet.
However, these relationships are always mutual. When we start building the renewed momentum behind 1xBet together, we will be unstoppable.
1xBet is expanding globally. What markets or areas do you see as key growth opportunities right now?
There is a real focus on regulated markets, as 1xBet currently holds over 20 local licences and there are several licence applications underway.
What makes 1xBet’s strategy or approach unique in such a competitive landscape?
Their experience in working in international, regulated markets, their history of success globally, and their ability to localise their product to the markets they enter. 1xBet is always at the forefront of delivering customer-centric, tailored solutions.
How do you envision your role evolving in the coming year, especially as the company continues scaling internationally?
My career has taught me not to have too many preconceived notions, but to dive in and see where it leads. It is essential to think dynamically and fluidly. There are also some exciting plans for the short to mid-term, which I look forward to sharing with you soon.
