Russian iGaming grows with the World Cup
Licensed operators of the Russian online gaming market showed great interest on sports betting platforms.
Russia.- As the host of one of the most popular international events in the sports industry – the FIFA World Cup – Russia has revealed that its licensed bookmakers have seen an increase in sports betting. According to official sources, licensed sports betting operators reported a great growth in players demand as the World Cup is gets closer.
The Parimatch figure was notable given that its traffic in the months from November 2017 to March 2018 averaged between 600,000 to 800,000, making the April figure around 400 per cent higher than normal, based on a statement published by Russian online gambling affiliate Legalbet’s survey.
Meanwhile, as the FIFA World Cup gets closer, Russia has set a crackdown on online sports betting platforms to eliminate illegal gaming options from the market. Under the crackdown framework, the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications (Roskomnadzor) has blocked over 1,800 gaming sites during the last few months.
