Rhode Island Senate passes mobile wagering

A bill to legalise mobile sports wagering in the state was passed in the Rhode Island Senate last Wednesday.

US.- Surrounded by states which have already legalised sports betting, Rhode Island is moving forward to regulate the segment the best way possible. That’s why a bill that would legalise sports wagers through mobile devices has been passed by the state Senate on Wednesday.

According to Democratic Senate President Dominick Ruggerio, expanding sports betting is a top priority in Rhode Island. That’s why he introduced the bill to enable the creation of an app that people could use to access the sports betting offerings at Twin River Casino.

Ruggerio wants to tackle the issue of long lines forming at the casino, as, currently, bets need to be placed in person at the Twin River casinos in Lincoln and Tiverton.

The House of Representatives is also expected to vote in favour of the bill as Democratic House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello has introduced similar legislation.

The segment continues to expand in the US and many states want to legalise the segment and benefit from the fastest growing part of the industry.
