“Real sports and eSports can exist together”

(Exclusive interview).- Focus Gaming News speaks to Christian Maglia, Chief Commercial Officer at Magellan Robotech.

Italy.- Christian Maglia has seen the iGaming industry grow up with the internet. With stints at Sportradar, BetGamesTV, WeAreCasino and currently Magellan Robotech under his belt, he has a wealth of experience behind him, but the current juncture is unprecedented, he says.

“The industry will have to learn how to react to situations like Covid-19,” he says, adding “a lot of operators discovered new products during the pandemic.”

“The way we play, and the way we live our lives has changed completely”

It’s no surprise that Maglia sees technology as the future, and that the industry needs to keep up.

“The industry will need to find what the new generation of players will be looking for,” he says.

And Maglia has no doubt that this will include eports.

“Real sports and esports can exist together in bookmakers’ offers.”

While he recognises revenue remains relatively small, he sees growth potential for esports in all territories among a younger generation of customers and mentions that poker players are investing in eSports teams.

As well as eSports, he predicts growth in betting on pre-recorded matches offered on virtual betting engines and on simulated leagues perhaps even betting on the mining of cryptocurrency, where machines are pitted against each other to see which will mine a coin first.

“This is an example to understand where this industry is going and how it’s mixing with technology,” he says.

“As an industry we will need to react fast to interruption of sports, and find alternatives.”
