Portuguese casinos thrived in 2018
Last year, the casino industry saw a revenue increase of 3.1% year-on-year as it raked over €318 million.
Portugual.- Portuguese casinos reported an improved performance last year after raking over €318 million in revenue. The figure was 3.1% better than it was the year before asthe industry thrived.
During 2018, Stanley Ho’s Estoril-Sol continued to lead the casino industry as its Lisbon venues; Estoril and Povoa de Varzim posted annual turnover of nearly €197 million rising 2.4% year-on-year. Meanwhile, operator Solverde Group saw the highest increase from 2017, as it grew 4.8% year-on-year through the €93.6 million revenue its three venues had.
The rest of the casino operators in the country also reported improved performances in 2018. All of them but the Pestana Group, which saw its revenue going down 3.1% last year, to a total €8.4 million.
The biggests threat for the thriving casino industry is – probably – the online gambling segment, which had gross gaminng revenue (GGR) rising to €37.3 million in the second quarter (from €25 million in 2Q17) while tax from gaming revenue was also up €3.6 million to €16.9 million.
