Portugal issues new online license
The regulatory body of Portugal SRIJ revealed that Jogos e Apostas Online obtained a new online gaming license.
Portugal.- The Serviço Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos do Turismo de Portugal -SRIJ- (Regulatory and Inspection Service of Portuguese Tourism Games) revealed that it has granted Jogos e Apostas Online SA the eleventh online gaming license in the country.
Just in September SRIJ granted two licenses, the other to Sociedade Figueira Praia, which is set to operate an online casino under the Casino Portugal brand, and eleventh overall ever since the industry was legalised two years ago.
Jogos e Apostas Online will offer its services to Portuguese players under the Nossa Aposta domain and will feature online slot games. With the new introduction, now seven licensees have permission to offer online casino games, whilst other four are allowed to feature online sportsbooks.
Last month, SRIJ also announced the second quarter results of 2017, where the seven registered online gambling licensees reported revenue of US$30 million. The results establish the first series of decline ever since the market was launched a year ago, and the second-lowest since the third quarter of 2016, when US$28.4 million were reported. To the end of June, the online gambling market in Portugal has generated revenue of US$127 million approximately.
