PokerStars dominates Italian market
The national regulator revealed that PokerStars has become the online casino leader in Italy.
Italy.- The Amministrazione Autonoma dei Monopoli di Stato (Autonomous Administration of the State Monopolies) announced that in just two years, PokerStars reached the top position when it comes to online casinos in Italy.
Whilst Amaya’s poker brand has only operated in the European country for two years, it has reached impressive results in that period of time. The operator reported an 8.5 percent market share, taking the crown from Lottomatica and becoming the top scorer. Managing Director of PokerStars Casino, Bo Wänghammar, said: These results show that we are continuously growing and are on track to becoming Italy’s favourite iGaming destination. However, we don’t just want to match the best casinos out there, we want to surpass them.”
Moreover, the official commented that PokerStars continues improving its casino offering by expanding the selection of top games, enhancing the VIP program, expanding customer acquisition efforts and introducing an improved mobile casino app.
During May, the online gambling market in Italy grew 19 percent annually from US$115 million to US$137 million, and sports betting and online casino were the biggest contributors. Online casino represents half of the market in Italy, as it increased from US$39 million to US$51 million year-on-year, whilst sports betting GGR (gross gaming revenue) increased from US$61 million to US$69 million. Christian Tirabassi, senior partner at Ficom Leisure, said in April that the Italian gaming market has become the second largest in Europe after the UK, which is considered the global benchmark for the gaming industry.
