Poker experiences shaky October in NJ
The poker market in the Garden State experienced a revenue loss in October.
US.- According to New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), the poker market in the state was worth US$3.88 million in October. Online poker totaled US$1.93 million in revenue during last month’s operations.
The online results were 19 percent lower than the US$2.39 million generated in October 2016. Poker revenue was US$1.95 million, a six percent decrease from the US$2.08 million totaled during the same month a year ago. In total, poker revenue for Atlantic City’s five brick-and-mortar rooms and the three operators was approximately 15 percent less than last year’s.
Whilst online poker operations decreased for Borgata, Caesars and Resorts, the latter with its PokerStars site saw the biggest fall with a 30 percent revenue decrease year-over-year. Even if the poker industry suffered bad results last month, online gambling achieved a new record in October: with two months to spare in 2017, it hit the US$200 million mark in gross revenue for the year and broke the annual revenue record.
New Jersey’s regulated online casinos totaled US$20.6 million in October and set an eight consecutive month over the US$20 million mark. Online casinos generated US$204.2 million in gross revenue through October 31 and surpassed the US$196.7 million that was accomplished in the 12 months of 2016.
