Phlippines Rep. to eliminate Pagcor

Philippines House of Representatives Speaker has launched a program to dismiss Pagcor’s authority.

Philippines.- The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor) could lose its authority on casino licensing process, as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Pantaleon Alvarez, proposed a program. The official held a public speech yesterday’s morning, where the Legislature’s intentions of controlling casino industry were revealed.

Under the proposed project, Pagcor would no longer administrate the licensing process for gaming and casino industries, as operators may apply for legislative franchises, the Inquirer newspaper published yesterday. The House of Representatives proposal has been allegedly created in order to have further control on casino activity.

Officials are seeking new ways of actively participating at casinos requirements after last Friday’s attack at Resorts World Manila, which reported 38 fatalities, including the perpetrator’s, Jessie Javier Carlos. The licensing process would also start including further security plans to prevent attacks of that kind.

According to the Inquirer report, the legislative franchises would completely replace Pagcor’s authority on casino projects. Alvarez urged legislators to introduce soon a new amendment including the proposed changes. The new bill would modify the current Republic Act 9487 that regulates the gaming industry in Philippines.

If the project is finally approved, the House of Representatives would hold powers in regards to granting, expanding, changing and revoking casino licenses.
