Philippine casinos resist smoke ban
Main casino operators of the country are meeting with the president Rodrigo Duterte to discuss the ban.
Philippines.- After the Filipino government issued an amendment to prohibit smoking and drinking in public places, casino operators asked for a meeting with the president-elect Rodrigo Duterte in order to present a petition to be exempted from the ban.
Later this month Philippine president will receive casino operators, leaded by the president and chief executive of Manila casino Travellers International Hotel Group, Kingson Sian. Travellers International operates the successful Resorts World Manila casino in the Philippines capital. The group is a venture between Alliance Global Group and Genting Hong Kong, major international operators.
“Hopefully the consultations will support what we’re saying,” stated Sian, whilst explaining that most of visitors are smokers and enjoy drinking in the casino’s bars. Manila is one of the most popular gambling hubs and it is expected to grow an 8 percent during this year.
