Pennsylvania registers revenue increase in January

Total gaming and DFS contests revenue generated in Pennsylvania in January rose 17% when compared to 2019.

US.- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) released on Wednesday the financial figures from January operations. Total gaming and fantasy contests revenue generated in the Commonwealth during January 2020 was US$302.8 million, which represents a 16.94% increase over revenue generated in January 2019.

January’s gross revenue from slot machines at the 12 casinos was US$190.3 million, a 5.8% increase in revenue when compared to the US$179.8 million generated in January 2019. The average number of slot machines operating on a daily basis was 24,126 during January 2020 compared to 25,280 at the casinos in January 2019. Tax revenue from the play of slots machines in January of this year was US$98.3 million.

Table games revenue for January 2020 was US$72.5 million, a decrease of 2.5% over January of last year when revenue was US$74.4 million. Total tax revenue from table games play during January was US$11.6 million with an average of 1,268 tables in daily operation statewide.

Casino games offered online generated gross revenue of US$13.9 million during January. That figure is 31.4% higher than the previous month of December 2019 when revenue was US$10.6 million. Tax revenue generated from internet gaming play during January was US$4.9 million.

Total adjusted revenue for January 2020 for video gaming terminals (VGTs) was US$1.1 million compared to US$879k in December, an increase of 27%. Each of the establishments operated the maximum of 5 machines. By the close of January, two operators had placed VGT’s in a total of 21 truck stop establishments. Tax revenue collected from the play of VGTs in January was US$579k.

Fantasy Contests revenue was US$2 million in January 2020, a decrease of 2.4% over January of last year when revenue was US$2.1 million. Tax revenue collected from the play of Fantasy Contests in January of this year was US$309k.

Sports betting revenue

January’s total sports wagering handle from both retail and online outlets was US$348 million, 1.7% above the previous month’s wager total of US$342.5 million. At the same time, the taxable revenue figure for January of this year was US$22.8 million or 100.8% higher than December 2019 taxable revenue of US$11.3 million. Tax revenue generated from sports wagering during January was US$8.2 million.
