Online gambling to become billionaire industry in Spain
Experts predict that there is plenty of room for growth in the Spanish online gambling market.
Spain.- The Spanish online gaming industry has been exponentially growing in the last few years. Experts say that there’s still plenty of room for growth in the sector, with predictions that it could soon be worth a billion euros a year.
Last year’s figures show that gross gaming revenue for online sports betting and casino games totalled US$687 million, driven by sports. Christian Tirabassi, senior partner at consultancy firm Ficom Leisure, said that Spain is on the radar of the international market. During Betting on Football, a conference that took place in London, he said: “I definitely see the market growing both in online and retail betting and think this market will easily hit one billion to 1.5 billion euros in the next three to five years.”
Jacob Lopez Curciel, chief executive of sports betting and gaming at Optima, said: “The operators and suppliers of technology for racing are producing streaming and will work very well for Spanish players. At the moment for Spanish players the sports they bet on are football, basketball and tennis but I think horse racing is growing, quite fast actually, and it is a product that has to be there.”
