Denmark.- Spillemyndigheden, the Danish gambling regulator, said that the expansion of online casino operations helped the country reach a year-on-year increase in gross gaming revenue (GGR) in 2016.
Online gambling and sports betting totaled US$5.3 billion in 2016, a 13 percent increase compared to the results reported in 2015, whilst overall the gambling industry registered a 6 percent year-on-year growth to US$1.2 billion, compared to the US$1.1 billion in 2015. Online casino was the highlight of Denmark’s online gambling operations, since the market grew 24 percent in 2016 to approximately US$200 million.
Online slots play accounted for 72 percent of all online gaming operations in Denmark in 2016, and analysts believe that they helped them achieve an increase in GGR results.
