Ohio Governor backs sports betting
Sports betting is once again on the table in Ohio thanks to the backing of Governor Mike DeWine.
US.- The governor of Ohio, Mike DeWine, has advocated the legalisation of sports betting in the state, arguing that it is only a matter of time before a bill is passed.
The first-term governor is keen to push through legislation, recognising the economic opportunities sports betting could bring to the state,
The Republican governor said: “Sports gaming is already in Ohio. Ohio’s just not regulating it. This is something that I think is inevitable. It’s coming to Ohio.”
A bill to legalise retail and mobile sports wagering in Ohio passed the state House of Representatives last May but was knocked back by the state Senate.
DeWine said lawmakers were drawing up legislation again in hope of taking advantage of a growing market, estimated at $600m a year.
He said: “The members of the general assembly are working that process. I will have the opportunity to see what they came up with. I will have the opportunity to weigh in at the appropriate time. But sports gaming is certainly coming to Ohio.”
