New online license issued in Portugal
Casino Portugal issued the ninth online gambling license to casino operator Sociedade Figueira Praia.
Portugal.- The Serviço Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos do Turismo de Portugal -SRIJ- (Regulatory and Inspection Service of Portuguese Tourism Games) announced that Sociedade Figueira Praia is set to operate an online casino under the Casino Portugal brand. The company that received the ninth online gambling license in the country had received an online sports betting license in June.
Chairman of Sociedade Figueira Praia’s parent company Amorim Turismo, Jorge Armindo Teixeira, said that the expansion to the online sector is intended to consolidate the growth achieved in the first months of sports betting operations. The ninth licensee casinoportugal.pt will count with the help of providers iSoftBet and NetEnt to fill its online casino portfolio.
Last month, SRIJ granted Estoril Sol a sports betting license. The company that operates the Casino Estoril, Casino Lisboa and Casino da Póvoa has been in Portugal for more than five decades. Moreover, SRIJ also announced the second quarter results of 2017, where the seven registered online gambling licensees reported revenue of US$30 million. The results establish the first series of decline ever since the market was launched a year ago, and the second-lowest since the third quarter of 2016, when US$28.4 million were reported. To the end of June, the online gambling market in Portugal has generated revenue of US$127 million approximately.
