Nevada sportsbooks break records
During Super Bowl weekend, Nevada-licensed sportsbooks reached US$158.6 million in wagers, US$20 million more than last year.
US.- The Nevada Gaming Control Board revealed that not only the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New England Patriots as state-licensed sportsbooks beat themselves in Super Bowl wagers by US$20 million to reach US$158.6 million during this year’s game. Handle records continue to be crushed in four out of the last five editions of American Football’s biggest stage as they have improved by US$100 million in wagers every year since 2014.
Despite having another broken record, sportsbooks only held 0.7 per cent of bettors’ wagers, reaching a US$1.17 million net win, way lower than last year’s hold of 7.9 per cent and US$10.9 million win.
According to ESPN’s David Purdum, Caesars Palace was the only operator to win some money as some late bets on the Patriots contributed to a seven figure win. On the other hand, Boyd Gaming, CG Technology, Station Casinos and Wynn Resorts lost money as backup quarterback Nick Foles outshined all-time great Tom Brady to win the title and earn MVP honors.
Meanwhile, in the UK, eGaming Review revealed that Kindred Group, Ladbrokes and many others had their money on the “underdog” Philadelphia team. Ladbrokes’ Jessica Bridge highlighted that Doug Pederson’s team was “friendless throughout the season, so we were cheering them on as a Patriots win would have been a bad result.”
