Nebraska voters to decide on online sports betting in November
Nebraska voters will decide on November 3 whether to expand sports betting to the internet.
U.S.- Two initiatives seeking to legalise online sports betting in Nebraska have qualified for the November 3 general election ballot after securing the required number of valid signatures. The Secretary of State’s office has certified the projects, which are designed to work together. One would amend the state Constitution, while the other would establish the regulatory framework for online sportsbooks.
The constitutional initiative required 138,473 valid signatures, or 10 per cent of registered voters plus the required county-level threshold. The regulatory initiative needed 96,918 signatures.
The certification came despite concerns over the authenticity of some signatures. More than 13,000 Lancaster County petitions had previously been flagged for potential irregularities, but officials determined that the initiatives had enough valid support to qualify.
If approved, Nebraska’s existing racetrack casinos could offer online sports betting directly or partner with sportsbook operators.
