Nebraska to vote on casino gambling

Citizens in Nebraska have collected enough signatures to secure a referendum on casino gambling in November’s vote.

US.- Nebraska will put a casino gambling bill to a referendum after a pro-gambling group reached the 475,000 public signatures necessary to get a vote.

The campaign group, named Keep the Money in Nebraska, says that because Nebraska is one of 10 US states with no casinos, people are taking their money to other states where gambling is permitted.

It wants to deliver three petitions: one would amend the state constitution to allow gambling, another would change state law to allow the government to regulate the market, and the third allocates tax revenue from gambling to local government.

At the moment, the petition to amend the constitution has 205,000 signatures, while the other two have reached about 135,000 each.

The petitions will be sent to the Nebraska secretary of state’s office, where the signatures must be counted and validated.

Once validated, the proposals will be put to a vote on this November’s ballot.
