Native American tribe challenges a federal judge’s decision
The Aquinnah Wampanoag, filed a notice of appeal after a ruling that would block them from building a gambling hall in Martha’s Vineyard.
US.- Martha’s Vineyard, native American tribe, the Aquinnah Wampanoag, filed an appeal with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, challenging the decision to block them from building a gambling hall on the island.
Back in November, U.S. District Judge Dennis Saylor ruled in favour of the town of Aquinnah and the state, which joined forces to take the tribe to court in order to ban the gambling project.
The tribe’s proposal consisted in turning an unfinished community center on its land into a gambling facility with hundreds of electronic betting machines.
