Mississippi reports US$6.5 million in sports bets
The state reported the results for its first month of sports betting operations.
US.- The Mississippi Gaming Commission has reported the financial results for the first full month of sports betting operations in the state. The 11 casinos that legally operated wagering on sports generated US$645k, and the state received US$77k in taxes.
The local regulator said that total wagers for August totalled US$6.2 million, with baseball being the most popular sports as it accounted US$3.3 million in wagers. While football only generated US$1.3 million in wagers, it is expected that the number will increase with the new season of the National Football League (NFL), which started on September 6th.
Allen Godfrey, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, said that total sports betting handle from August 1st to September 3rd was US$9.8 million, which shows that during the first three days of the current month over US$3 million were wagered.
