Mississippi launches sports betting operations
Two casinos in the Magnolia state started accepting bets on sports yesterday.
US.- MGM’s Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi and the Gold Strike Casino in Tunica inaugurated the sports betting market in Mississippi on Wednesday. Two more casinos are expected to follow later this month.
The initial bets were placed by former Miami Hurricanes running back and two-time NFL Pro Bowler Willis McGahee and oddsmaker Danny Sheridan. In order to be eligible to participate in sports betting, people need to be at least 21 and they can only do it on their own behalf.
Mississippi is now the third state to offer legal sports betting, following Delaware and New Jersey, after the US Supreme Court decided in mid-May that the federal ban on the gambling modality was unconstitutional. The gaming commission from the state said earlier this week that it hasn’t received any applications to offer online sports betting services.
Moreover, Caesars also revealed that sports betting operations will be launched at Harrah’s Gulf Coast in Biloxi and Horseshoe Tunica by mid-August.
