MGM Springfield’s revenue, third best in May

According to the casino operator, MGM Springfield’s revenue reached US$22.3 million, the third best figure since it opened back in August 2018.

US.- The MGM Springfield casino in Massachusetts opened shop in August and continues to succeed. During May, the operator saw one of its best performances since it launched.

MGM Springfield revenue totalled US$22.29 million in May, coming from both slot machines and table games. Furthermore, slots at Plainridge Park Casino posted US$14.84 million revenue, which means a total US$12.84 million will flow to state coffers.

According to the company, MGM Springfield’s revenue came from the US$184 million gambled into slots at the venue. Such amount led to a total US$16.1 million left for the company, the MGC says. The remaining US$6.18 million in revenue came from table games.

The company revealed it was the third best month since the opening of the venue.

“We continue to be pleased with our performance,” MGM Springfield President and COO Mike Mathis said. ”We’re capturing market share and growing loyalty.” He also added that the casino was “buoyed” in May by non-gaming activities.

Failed sale

The potential acquisition of the Encore Boston Harbour shocked the industry. However, MGM Resorts announced it won’t advance with the buyout of Wynn’s casino.

The company issued a statement – quoted by The Boston Globe – saying it has “discontinued discussions” to buy the resort.

“We are committed to our Springfield community and proud of what we have accomplished,” the company said. “We will always explore ways to deepen our engagement in the Commonwealth. Our discussions regarding the Everett resort were in that spirit.”

“We have noted the anxiety raised by various stakeholders regarding a transaction and this troubles us at MGM,” the operator added. “We only wish to have a positive impact on communities in which we operate. We think the best course of action is to discontinue discussions concerning this opportunity.”
