MGM expects sports wagering in stadiums
The company’s new sports betting chief said that the possibility of being able to bet in stadiums is high.
US.- Scott Butera, President of Interactive Gaming at MGM, said that sports betting parlors inside their stadiums is something that could happen in the future, as it would make it easier for fans to be able to place wagers.
“The conversion rate from sports fan to sports bettor is very high. That’s your most robust customer,” Butera said in an interview, according to Bloomberg. The executive, who joined MGM in June in a move that seeks to position MGM as an industry leader in the recently legalised US sports betting market, said that he’s been talking to leagues and individual teams about deals.
Back in August, the National Basketball Association (NBA) revealed that it reached a partnership with MGM. The deal is the first of its kind for the sports league, and it gives permission to MGM to use NBA and WNBA logos and trademarks. The deal also establishes that the casino company will have access to official NBA data streams in order to be able to create products such as in-game betting.
“There’s a lot of interest in sports betting,” Butera said. “Figuring out how it unfolds is the question. I’m in it every day, and it’s going to be an evolution,” he added.
