MGM bets on running the arena in Massachusetts

MGM Resorts has been investing over US$950 million in the state and is bidding for more.

US.- MGM Resorts officially bid last night for a project that would turn the major entertainment company into the operator of the state-owned arena and convention complex, the MassMutual Center. The development will be shared with Spectra, current operator of the place. MGM would be in charged of services and venue management, whilst Spectra will be the food and beverage provider.

The MassMutual would be added to MGM Resorts’ target of opening a hotel and casino a block away from each other in 2018. The Las Vegas famous company is presenting to Massachusetts’ authorities its plans to achieve the five year contract. If MassMutual is granted to MGM, the partnership will start in July 1 after a 6 month of transition phase.

MGM is confident about its position in the market and published that the idea is to develop a “high quality entertainment” complex for acts, conventions and shows trades in the former Springfield Civic Center, currently property of the Convention Center Authority of Massachusetts.
