Melco Crown to change its name

The company announced that the new name Melco Resorts and Entertainment will be subject to shareholders.

Philippines.- Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd announced that it will change its name to Melco Resorts and Entertainment if the shareholders approve the measure by the end of this month. There’s still no information as to why the company decided to rebrand.

According to GGRAsia, the company confirmed the news via email. During a filling to the Philippine Stock Exchange, the company said that there was a possibility that they would rebrand soon, and that they were seeking a new name without the word “Crown”. Brokerage Sanford C. Bernstein Ltd said that the company is not as recognised as some of its competitors in Macau.

Earlier this month it was announced that the operator wants a license from Japan. “Japan is the best opportunity for a casino resort investment outside Macau, so the competition is going to be very intense: the largest gaming and entertainment firms from around the world as well as local large-scale Japanese firms will head for it. But we are still confident about it,” said Chief executive and chairman of Melco Crown Entertainment Lawrence Ho Yau Lung.
