Matchbook completes Betdaq acquisition
The deal unites two of the industry’s longest-running betting exchanges.
UK- and Alderney-based Matchbook has finalised its acquisition of Betdaq in a move that unites two of the industry’s longest-running betting exchanges. Matchbook said the agreement “underlines its long-term commitment” to the exchange betting sector and will strengthen its liquidity offering as interest in peer-to-peer betting continues to grow.
According to Matchbook, combining the two platforms will create a larger liquidity pool, allowing customers to access tighter spreads and place larger wagers with a greater likelihood of being matched at their preferred odds. Matchbook CEO Ronan McDonagh said the deal supports the company’s goal of making exchange betting the preferred option for bettors.
“Betdaq and Matchbook grew up proving the same idea – that bettors get a better deal when prices are made by a market rather than a margin,” he said. “A quarter of a century on, that idea is winning: exchanges and prediction markets are bringing peer-to-peer pricing to new audiences around the world, and this acquisition deepens the pool at the heart of everything we build.
“Our first priority through this transition is Betdaq’s customers: their funds are safe, their options are clear, and in one combined pool they should find better prices and deeper liquidity than either exchange could offer alone.”
The growth of peer-to-peer betting has been especially notable in the United States, where prediction market platforms including Kalshi and Polymarket have attracted significant attention.
Founded in 2004, Matchbook has grown its profile through a series of initiatives that extend beyond traditional sports betting. In 2024, the company teamed up with EasyGroup, the business group behind airline EasyJet, to launch the EasyBet betting exchange brand. Matchbook has also increased its presence in the prediction markets segment. During the 2026 World Cup, the operator partnered with the tournament’s official predictions partner, ADI PredictStreet.
Betdaq’s current service will continue to operate until October 21 to facilitate the transition process, while customers will be able to withdraw funds until November 4.
