Massachusetts is okay with Connecticut casino

The governor said that he’s not worried about MGM Springfield’s future.

US.- Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker was asked about Connecticut’s third casino, which is supposed to compete directly with the upcoming MGM casino in Springfield, and said that he’s not worried since the one in Massachusetts has a great location.

“And MGM has said all along, to us anyway, that they feel very good about the site, they feel very good about the plan and they fully expect that they’re going to be successful no matter what happens,” he said. The US$950 million facility will be located in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts, and is the product of a resolution made by the state Gaming Commission, who said that they would allow three casinos in the state. The gambling facility that is supposed to open sometime in September 2018 is between three intersections, which makes it very accessible for close counties.

MMCT Venture, conformed by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, said that the facility in Connecticut will be located 15 miles south of MGM Springfield. The tribes announced that the third US$250 million casino is set to be built near the border with Massachusetts to compete with the upcoming MGM project.

“I think the MGM people are pretty happy with what they’re up to and with that site in particular and have always maintained to us that they really like where they are and they think that site in particular has a really big future,” concluded Baker.
