Massachusetts’ budget depends on gaming

This week the government of Massachusetts will start planning the state’s budget.

US.- As announced this weekend, the government of Massachusetts is due to start planning the state’s budget next Wednesday. Authorities are expecting the Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker’s budget plan addressing the state’s financial structure for the upcoming fiscal year, which starts next July 1.

According to the official press, the debates will consider the gaming industry’s new operations in the state, including the pending opening of Wynn Boston Harbor, which is expected to open its doors by June this year. Furthermore, the government will consider the income that will be generated by the MGM Springfield casino. The company has recently revealed that following the current schedule, the casino will be inaugurated by September 2018.

“The state could also realize a $50 million to $70 million cut of casino proceeds” from both venues, as reported by The Boston Herald. MGM Springfield will be located in downtown Springfield and is the product of a resolution adopted by the state Gaming Commission which establishes that three casinos would be allowed in the state. The US$1 billion facility is expected to generate 3,000 jobs and extend over three city blocks once finished.

Meanwhile, Wynn is investing US$2.4 billion in the Massachusetts venue. The hotel complex said that it would feature over 101 rooms, and estimated that 4,000 workers would be hired during construction, as well as 4,000 permanent jobs created when the casino finally opens its doors.
