Several states are waiting for the US Supreme Court’s resolution to determine wether to expand their industries or not.
Massachusetts will also have two new casinos in Springfield and Everett soon, noting the growing of the industry in the region. Both casinos will be operated by major gaming companies, MGM Resorts and Wynn Resorts, respectively. As revealed by the press, also both companies are interesting in operating sports betting in case the local government legalizes the gaming modality following the potential Supreme Court’s resolution.
“There is a school of thought that there’s going to be a competitive situation,” said Stephen Crosby, chairman of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, which regulates the state’s fledgling casino industry. “Which states are going to get going and try to get a piece of this action? If the Legislature wants to move quickly, we’d like to tee it up for them and say, ‘Here’s what the issues are.’”
