Mashpee Wampanoag expects to open casino on 2017
The Cape Cod-based tribe plans to open a resort casino, located south of Boston by 2017.
US.- The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe announced its plans to open US$500 million First Light Casino south of Boston by 2017 and revealed updated casino designs.
The tribe is developing the project along with Malaysia-based Genting Group and April 5 is the expected date of the groundbreaking.
The projected casino is proposed in four phases, starting with the casino, restaurants, entertainment and retail offerings. Later phases, which include three proposed hotels, a parking garage and a water park, will be under construction throughout 2022.
The design includes two rectangular glass hotel towers, a low-slung casino building and a parking garage and a wetu, a traditional Wampanoag home, at the casino’s main entry. The casino will be located in Taunton, a city more than 30 miles from Boston on 151 acres within an industrial park.
