Maryland sports betting excludes voters
Maryland voters won’t decide on sports betting after lawmakers passed a measure to cut them out of the process, but they must confirm it.
US.- The sports wagering industry is thriving in the US. That’s why Maryland may legalise sports betting in the near future.
The issue was supposed to be ultimately decided by voters, but it won’t be the case. The Senate voted to remove them from the process, but there’s a little hitch with it.
Despite the vote, Maryland voters must also vote themselves out of the sports betting debate.
Casino revenue
The gaming industry continues to have casinos as a top money-maker, as seen in recent figures. Maryland casino revenue went up once again in December, even as it was a mere 0.5% improvement.
MGM’s National Harbor casino led the market with total gaming revenue of US$62.6 million. That meant a 4.5% jump from December 2018 and was US$8.7 million higher from the previous month.
Cordish Gaming’s Live! Casino & Hotel came in second after taking in US$51.8 million in December. It was a 3.4% increase year-on-year but was only US$1 million better than November.
Caesars’ Horseshoe Casino Baltimore followed at US$18.7 million, a 15.7% decrease. The Maryland casino continues to struggle and was near its US$18.3 million all-time low from last August.
