Maryland casinos post good results in April
Four of the six casinos in Maryland reported year-over-year increases in April 2019.
US.- According to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming, the state’s six casinos generated US$145.2 million in gaming revenue during April operations. This represents a 1.2% increase from 2018, and four of the six casinos reported year-over-year increases.
Once again, MGM National Harbor was the top scorer in the state and accounted for more than 60% of the total revenue last month. The latest casino to open in the state generated US$60.8 million, up 5.2% from April 2018.
The second largest facility in Maryland, Live! Casino & Hotel at Arundel Mills, generated US$47.8 million in gaming revenue, or a 2.2% increase from 2018. Ocean Downs Casino and Rocky Gap also increased gaming revenues by 6.7% and 0.8% respectively.
On the other hand, Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino reported a revenue fall of 9.6% from last April to US$19.7 million. Hollywood Casino Perryville reported US$6.2 million in gaming revenue, which represents a 9.8% decrease from a year ago.
Casinos set a record in March
Maryland casinos set a single record of US$163.2 million in gaming revenue in March. This figure was US$5 million higher than the previous record set in October 2018.
The revenue generated in March was also 9% higher than what was recorded during the same month in 2018. MGM National Harbor accounted for almost 39% of the total, with gaming revenue from its slots and table games of US$62.8 million, approximately 3.9% up from a year ago.
Furthermore, Live! Casino and Hotel had a strong month, with March gaming revenue increasing 19% from a year ago to US$55.9 million. Baltimore Horseshoe Casino registered US$25.6 million in gaming revenue, up 3% from 2018.
Hollywood Casino Perryville, Ocean Downs and Rocky Gap Casino Resort reported US$7.2 million, US$6.6 million and US$5.2 million respectively.
