Maine’s Legislature will this week discuss a bill on sports betting bill including online gambling.
US.- Maine’s Legislature Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs has passed a bill to legalise sports betting in the state for debate in the legislature.
Lawmakers are expected to discuss Senator Louis Luchini‘s bill this week.
The main point of debate is how to structure Maine’s sports gambling market. Some would prefer sportsbooks to be operated by existing casinos or race tracks only, while others want an open market. this week.
If approved, it will still be required the governor’s signature to become a law.
Online gambling licences under debate
The sports betting bill would allow outside entities to apply for licences in an “untethered” and open market.
Penn National Gaming, which operates the Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway in Bangor, has been opposed to that openness.
When the Legislature Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs invited public input on the subject of sports gambling last month, Penn National supported the idea of only allowing existing licensees to be able to launch sportsbooks.
