Lottery grows in China
Chinese lottery experienced good results in September, specially boosted by sports betting operations.
China.- The lottery industry in China has revealed good news this week, as authorities confirmed the market grew 15.1 percent in September. The report was released by the Chinese Ministry of Finance, showing that the Mainland China’s lottery sales have reached the total of CNY36.93 billion during last month’s operations.
According to the report, welfare lottery sales closed in CNY17.61 billion in the period, which represents an increase of 6.5 percent from the prior-year period. Meanwhile, the total lottery revenue was supported by a 24.4-percent year-on-year increase in sales of sports lottery tickets, to CNY19.32 billion.
“In September, sales were up in 28 of the 31 provinces and cities of mainland China authorised to sell lottery tickets. Total lottery sales in Fujian province nearly doubled from a year earlier, to approximately CNY1.90 billion, according to the ministry’s data. In Guangdong province, sales of lottery tickets grew by 21.6 percent year-on-year to CNY 3.91 billion,” states the report.
As the Ministry said, aggregate sales totaled US$5.3 billion the previous month, whilst welfare lottery sales increased 10 percent year-on-year to US$2.64 billion and sports lottery sales increased 16.4 percent to US$2.66 billion. During last month’s operations, 26 provinces boosted their operations, specially driven by Fujian, Henan, Hunan, Zhejiang and Guangdon.
