Lithuania gets a tighter grip on illegal remote gambling

The Gaming Control Authority implemented rigorous controls on online gaming operators, pursuant to recent amendments on Lithuanian gaming law.

Lithuania .- The Gaming Control Authority under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania has announced that as of January 1st it will take “strict legal action” against operators who organise remote gambling illegally targeting the country and it will also limit Lithuanian customer’s transactions and payouts of winnings from and to illegal gambling sites, with the aim of banks and other institutions.

Moreover, the Authority will be able to issue legally binding orders to information hosting services or network service providers in order to block access to illegal remote gambling operators’ websites. The information connected to these operators will be publicly disclosed.

The Gaming Control Authority’s director, Virginijus Dauksys, stated: “These changes to regulation have been widely publicised and will be strictly legally enforced. Gaming operators need to be licensed to operate in the Republic of Lithuania.”
