Kalshi threatens Netflix over prediction markets documentary trailer
The operator claims the Instadocs: The Prediction Games trailer is defamatory.
US.- Kalshi has sent Netflix a cease-and-desist letter demanding the immediate removal of the trailer for the documentary Instadocs: The Prediction Games. It claims that the video is defamatory and contains fabricated documents along with false and misleading statements.
In the letter dated July 24, Kalshi said the trailer creates the false impression that individuals traded sports event contracts on its platform in Nevada on July 19, 2026, in violation of a court order. The company argued these portrayals jeopardise its legal standing in ongoing litigation.
Kalshi is subject to a preliminary injunction issued by the First Judicial District Court for the State of Nevada on May 18, 2026. The order prohibits the company from offering or facilitating sports-, election-, or entertainment-related event contracts in the state.
The Netflix trailer focuses on a gathering of prediction market bettors at a Las Vegas mansion during the FIFA World Cup final. One guest states “I like betting on Kalshi” while another displays what appears to be a $5,000 trade on Spain to win. Kalshi stated the image shown is a screenshot of a trade placed on May 16, 2025, before restrictions in Nevada took effect.
Netflix does not deny that the screenshot dates to 2025 but says the footage was filmed at a Winible World Cup Watch Weekend event in Las Vegas on July 17, where the participant showed an old screenshot. “No footage in Instadocs: The Prediction Games was fabricated,” a spokesperson said.
The documentary itself was released on July 26 and includes interviews with Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour and Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan.
