Judge revokes bond for co-defendant in Terry Rozier NBA gambling case
Deniro Laster has been remanded into custody after prosecutors accused him of violating his release conditions.
US.- A federal judge has revoked the bond of Deniro Laster, a co-defendant in the NBA gambling case involving former Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier, after finding that he was unlikely to comply with the conditions of his release. US District Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall ordered Laster into custody yesterday (August 11), following allegations that he contacted co-defendants and potential witnesses despite a court-ordered no-contact restriction.
Prosecutors also accused Laster of attempting to intimidate a potential witness by posting rat emojis on Instagram. Assistant US Attorney David Berman described the alleged conduct as “utterly egregious.”
The court also heard that Laster contacted an individual despite the no-contact order. Corcoran argued that the person was not specifically identified on a no-contact list, but the court noted that when such an order is in place, contact is generally permitted only through attorneys. The judge also challenged the defence’s argument that bond revocation typically follows a rearrest.
The case centres on allegations that Rozier provided Laster with advance information about his planned early exit from a March 2023 game while playing for the Charlotte Hornets. Prosecutors allege Laster passed the information to sports bettors, who then wagered on Rozier’s statistical performance, with Rozier and Laster allegedly agreeing to a payment of approximately $70,000.
