Japan to sell lottery tickets online
The Japanese government has authorised online lottery ticket sales from next October in an effort to improve business.
Japan.- Thanks to the convenience of the Internet, the iGaming industry continues to grow worldwide as gamblers choose to stay at home and play online; this is why the Japanese government has decided to start selling lottery tickets online from next October.
The announcement was made on Friday by the Internal Affairs Ministry and was designed to improve lottery sales as most public-run lotteries will be available online. Before buying any tickets, gamblers will however be required to register online and link their account to a designated bank account, into which they’ll receive any winnings.
The government expects to turn around the downward trend that lottery sales have experienced since its peak in 2005. In 2016 sales barely reached €6.2 billion and that’s why authorities expect to get a boost from internet presence as the younger generations and unlimited business hours are set to provide more possibilities for lotteries.
