Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma to launch online poker website

The website named PokerTribe, received launch approval after an arbitrator decided that the site could be hosted legally.

US.- Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma was granted approval to launch online poker website starting on Aug 1, 2016.

The website is called PokerTribe.com and the approval comes after months and months of legal discussions. The main issue regarding the approval was if an online poker would be in violation of state gambling regulations and what representations it would have with the tribe.

An arbitrator stepped in last year and concluded, after extensive research, that the site could be hosted legally by the tribe only if served international customers and if the gaming servers stayed on tribal land. After receiving the arbitrator’s clearance, the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma went to the US District Judge and the judge decided to approve the request.

This is a major breakthrough for tribal interests in the United States, as PokerTribe.com will be the very first online poker site hosted by an American Indian tribe. Booby Walkup, Iowa Tribe’s Chairman commented: “We would rather be the first in the nation than to allow another state and/or enterprise to beat us to the punch.”
